Searching for Your Lost Deal

"The deal-a-day website has become rather popular in the past few years"

Did you get everything you want for Christmas or did your favorite person neglect to get you that one thing that you really really wanted this year?

Well first, I'd like to apologize that your friends didn't catch on to your hints or your list of material items that you wanted.  But there is hope.

"Where?" you ask.

Well let me tell you, the hope is on the internet where deals are created for people just like you.  Yes, I am pointing metaphorically because teleportation hasn't quite advanced enough for anything further.

You have that good old Christmas or Holiday money, right?

Good.

Now that most sites are packing up their holiday deals, you can always drag your cursor to a place with a deal a day.  You haven't heard, well let me tell you of a place where, if your luck is decent, will provide you with one of those items that may have slipped into the dark recesses where only socks can safely travel to with hopes of being found years later.

This site, Woot!

Maybe you have heard of it or maybe you have only eavesdropped on such a secret conversation but it is true.  A place where amazing deals on products you may have always wanted does exist.

It is insane to think that the people of woot could have read your mind or maybe it is just the idea of finding that computer for cheap or a wine opener for you mom.

The deal-a-day website has become rather popular in the past few years but I have always found Woot to be one of the best for looks and items they sell.  Not only that, they have other sites to check out like one for shirts.  Yes, shirts.  So now you, too, can enjoy a clever t-shirt that no one in your area may be wearing.  And if you live in a small town, your odds are even greater.

What are you waiting for, finish this article, comment on how chock full of hopefulness it is, and jump over to Woot! with your fingers crossed because maybe your prized hair dryer will be on sale.

Good day.

To get you started, here are a few FREE codes that are valid until December 31st, 2013:

Although my days of using Pampers are long gone, I came across this great deal on a freebie forum I frequent. The more codes you enter, the more points you earn. These points are then redeemed for gifts. You will, however, have to create a count before you can beginning uploading the codes to get your points. This is totally free, and will only take a few minutes of your time.

Some of the gifts you can choose from include magazine subscriptions, toys for your child, tricycles, potty seats, videos, and books.

Free Sample of O.B. Tampons

"You’ll need to provide your shipping address in order to receive the free sample of O.B. tampons in the mail."

I love free samples because they give you a chance to try a product before you spend money purchasing an entire box of the product. Since I am loyal to one brand of tampons, it is unlikely that I would ever switch without trying a free sample, and then finding out that I really like it. For others who feel the same way, you’ll be happy to discover that O.B. is offering a free sample of their new line of tampons.

O.B. has created a tampon that is safer for the environment because it can be used without an applicator. In fact, O.B. claims that this new line of tampons reduces waste by 58%. On the O.B. website you can get a glimpse of what 58% less waste really looks like. It is eye opening.

So, to get your free tampon samples, you must head to the O.B. website and register. Some websites will allow you to access samples without registering, which are the ones I prefer, but O.B. requires registration. Don’t worry though, registration is free. All you need to do is fill out your name, email address, and choose a password. You’ll also need to fill out a quick survey about the feminine hygiene products that you currently use, agree to O.B.’s privacy statement, and then fill in the letters in the security box.

Next, you can log in to the website and click on the “Free Sample” button. You’ll need to provide your shipping address in order to receive the free sample of O.B. tampons in the mail. You’ll need to allow six to eight weeks for delivery, but its possible you’ll get it much sooner.

Earthbound Farm Giving Away a Free eCookbook

Earthbound Farm is an all organic company that specializes in growing fresh ingredients to make packaged salads. The company is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, and is offering a free ecookbook that is filled with salad recipes. I love eating salads, and I have a set of Grandparents that eat salads every night for dinner. I can’t wait to share this deal with them.

The ecookbook is titled Salads for Every Season: 25 Recipes from Earthbound Farm, and is 83 pages long. The cookbook was prepared by Myra Goodman, the author of The Earthbound Cook and Food to Live By. Myra believes that packaged salads are convenient and encourage people to eat healthier. I must say that I agree with her. Whenever we start our meal off with a salad, we eat less of the heavy meats, and are not as apt to quickly grab a dessert after dinner.

If you want to take advantage of this spectacular deal, you must do so before the end of the year. The offer expires 12/31/11. You can find the free download at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble’s website, Google eBooks, iTunes, Sony’s ebook store, or Kobobooks.com. That is plenty of options so you really have no excuse for not taking advantage of this offer, unless of course, you don’t like salads.

You can download the ecookbook to your computer, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, iRiver, Nook and Sony. I’m going to download the ecookbook to my computer so that I can print it out and store it alongside my hard bound cookbooks for quick access. Of course, my daughter prefers to store her information on the iPod Touch, so it is just a matter of preference.

PBS Gives Away Free Apps

Many children now have access to iPod Touches and iPads, even if those devices belong to their parents. You will be excited to discover that PBS is now giving away free apps for these devices. These apps provide children with hours of fun, while educating them at the same time. This is perfect should you find yourself sitting in a waiting room at the doctor’s office.

The first app is for the show Fetch. It is called Fetch Lunch Rush and children are required to take sushi lunch orders from restaurant guests. The trick is to keep track of how many orders there are for each dish on the menu. Math is the subject being worked on with this app, but your child will also find that the game helps with memory skills.

The second app is for the show Super Why, and is called Super Why Alpha Boost. This app promotes literacy by requiring children to choose their favorite Super Why character and go on an adventure. Each adventure focuses on words that center around a theme so that kids learn to improve letter sounds and letter recognition.

The next app features the characters from Dinosaur Train. It is called Dinosaur Eggspress, and encourages a child’s love for science. This game gets children to reunite dinosaur families by making matches, hunting for dinosaur eggs, and traveling through different time periods.

Finally, you can download a free app to watch PBS KIDS shows whenever you are away from your home television. A few shows that come with the download include Dinosaur Train, Curious George, and The Cat in the Hat.

Save Ten Bucks (or Much More) Today

When someone mentions ten percent off, I’m not that impressed. In fact, my husband gets ten percent off with his employee discount, but we still shop elsewhere because we can do it cheaper! Unless you are spending a lot of money, ten percent isn’t that much.

But when you mention saving ten bucks altogether, you’ve got my attention. Here are a few ways you can save ten dollars today.

  • Switch your prescription. If you are renewing it anyway, you may be able to save up to ten bucks; call around and see who has it for cheap. Keep in mind that switching to a generic is even cheaper. I saved my aunt over $100 by switching from one bone medication to another.
  • Make it yourself. If it’s a coffee, or a lunch out, or a housewarming gift, or anything else, you can probably make it yourself rather than spend up to $10 on it.
  • Borrow. Instead of purchasing new books or movies or music, borrow them from friends or the library. Depending upon how much you typically buy, you could save yourself hundreds of dollars a month! Remember that many libraries also offer inter-library loans if you can’t find what you are looking for. Just give the librarian the title of the book and the author. It may take you a bit longer to get it, but it will be free and well worth the wait. If you have a local bookstore that accepts credit, you could also exchange books for new ones.
  • Rent. This is a great strategy for everything from suits to textbooks to videos.
  • Swap. Host a swap party with friends to get rid of things you don’t need and to get things you do need. We bring our old items to our monthly family game night to swap and get rid of as prizes, but you could easily do this with housewares, clothing, whatever you want. Have a party to go to? Host a swap for a new outfit and save yourself lots of money.
  • Shop used. You don’t need everything to be brand new, after all. Try Craigslist, Good Will, and other thrift stores. Our local homeschool group has its own classifieds as well and we have gotten everything from free books to clothing through it; see if yours does, too. You can even get prom dresses for cheap this way!

Free 2012 Calendar

from the American Mathematical Society

I never pay for yearly calendars because there are so many ways I can get one for free. A funeral home in town offers residents a free calendar each year, as well as my local oil delivery company. If you don’t have resources like this in your hometown, you can request a free 2012 calendar from the American Mathematical Society.

Most freebie offers only allow you to request one item per household. This is not the case with this freebie offer, however. The American Mathematical Society has a three calendar limit per household, in case you know anyone who would like a calendar for the upcoming year.

This years free calendar is entitled “Mathematical Imagery,” because it contains many pictures of mathematically inspired art. Some images are computer generated, while others are formed out of origami or paints. You don’t have to be a mathematician to enjoy the artwork displayed throughout this calendar.

To request your calendar or calendars, you will need to email the American Mathematical Society from their “contact us” page. They require your name and email address in order to send a message. Make sure you list your mailing address in the body section, along with a note that you desire the calendar. Then click, “Send Email.”

There is one more option. You can choose to download the calendar in a PDF format, and print it out on your home printer. You won’t have the calendar binding, but you can always staple the pages together. This is a good option if you don’t want to wait for a copy of the calendar to be mailed.

FREE Toothpaste: Take the Arm and Hammer Challenge

"All you have to do is fill out your full name, full address, and country."

Arm and Hammer is currently offering a free sample of their Advance White toothpaste. They claim that the toothpaste removes five times more plaque than their original toothpaste.

This Arm and Hammer toothpaste is made with baking soda, which works to get in between your teeth and gums where your toothbrush can’t reach. I know several people who believe in only uses all-natural products, and they swear by baking soda.

I love free samples, so you better believe that I filled out the form to get my free Arm and Hammer Advance White toothpaste. Who doesn’t want whiter teeth anyway?

Type the following into your browser: www (dot) tryarmandhammer (dot) com. For some reason clicking on a link that says the same thing doesn’t work.

All you have to do is fill out your full name, full address, and country. You can add your phone number, but I opted out of that. Next, is the box for your email address, which you must fill out in order to request the sample.

Underneath the email requirement are two boxes that you can check if you want to. Basically these boxes give Arm and Hammer the right to contact you about their products, or send you emails about future promotions. Then there are two survey questions about what type of toothpaste you currently use, followed by a security box that requires you to retype the displayed numbers.

Once you submit the form, you will have to confirm that your email address is real by clicking on the link that Arm and Hammer sends you. I did this and was told that my sample should arrive within the next six to eight weeks.

Cool Inventions of 2011

Arm slings, storage racks, see-through toasters.

Sometimes, there are just little things that you can add to your life to make it a bit better. These things are not necessities by a long shot, but maybe are a little quirky or make irksome tasks just a bit easier.

2011 has plenty of examples that fit into this category. Let’s take a look at some inventions that make life simpler, more fashionable or just plain cooler:

Keyboard Food Tray. This keyboard food tray allows you to put your toast and coffee on top of it so that the crumbs or spills don’t fall onto the keyboard itself. Your hands fit underneath it, so you can continue typing as you snack. This sounds pretty cool, actually. I don’t know how many keyboards I’ve made sticky by spilling coffee on the keys.

Rolling Book Chair. This roll-able, bookshelf chair is probably a must-have for everybody. It includes a wheel at the bottom of the chair so you can push it around, and also a lamp on the armrest so you can read your book wherever you are. Underneath the seat and on the two fronts of the armrests, you can store your books. The back legs allow for a comfortable seat, and it also has slots to store your notebooks and pencils. Can’t wait to see someone wheeling this thing around in Central Park.

Foldable umbrella. This umbrella certainly comes in handy when you don’t want to carry a giant bag, or if you do have a giant bag and don’t want to ruin it with a sopping umbrella. This invention is an umbrella that folds into a little bag, so you can carry it around as it dries off.

Arm slings that describe how you broke your arm. These hip casts feature warning sign characters tripping down stairs, falling in soccer matches or being chased by dogs so you can avoid telling one person after another how you broke arm. Seems like it would save a lot of time—and annoyance for the poor, injured person.

Under-the-stairs storage rack. This is a pretty convenient installation for people with too much stuff and not enough interest in those plastic storage containers. With this invention, a sliding door comes out from underneath a wooden stair, you can store things—like shoes, probably—underneath. No word on how many stairs can get the storage treatment.

Vision Toaster. This toaster has two glass panels on either side of your piece of toast, so you can watch as your toast browns. I like anything that turns bread into art. I would buy this in a heartbeat if it didn’t cost THREE-HUNDRED AND THIRTY DOLLARS!

10% Off Any Lowe's Purchase

I love a good deal. If you look hard enough, you can get away without paying full price for anything. Recently, I came across a deal that covers every item in Lowe's. It’s a free 10% coupon that you can use anytime before the end of the year.

You may think that 10% doesn’t sound like much, but just consider the upcoming holidays. Suppose you plan on buying your husband that $300 table saw he was eyeing up the last time you visited Lowe's. Using the 10% coupon, your total purchase price is lowered to $270, saving you $30. You could use that $30 to buy your son a Nintendo DS game, or your daughter a Littlest Pet Shop Salon. It would be as if you were getting a free gift.

So what information do you need to grab your free 10% off coupon? Just your full name, email address (that is where they will send your coupon), and full mailing address. There is a box at the bottom that requires you to type in the validation code. This exists just to prove that you are a human being. Click submit when you are finished.

Lowe's promises to deliver your coupon to your email inbox within three to seven days, but it actually shows up in a matter of minutes.

You can only get this coupon if you live in the United States, and the 10% off is good up to purchases that equal $5,000 or less. So if you purchase $6,000 in building materials, you will only get the maximum $500 off of your total, which is still a significant savings. If you don’t think you will be going to Lowe's in the next couple of weeks, grab the coupon and give it to a friend.
