Free Skin Cancer Screenings

Free Skin Cancer Screenings

In honor of May being skin cancer awareness month, Olay and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery are presenting free skin cancer screenings across the United States. There is no catch to this program, and anyone who chooses to take advantage of it will get a free visit to the dermatologist that includes a screening for possible skin cancer.

The campaign has been titled, “Skin Cancer Takes Friends,” and participants are encouraged to bring their family and friends along with them for the visit. The program will not only be available throughout the month of May, but during the month of June as well. This gives everyone ample time to take advantage of this important freebie.

I believe this service is greatly needed, especially with the use of tanning beds. This is in addition to tanning on the beach or in your backyard. In fact, both of my grandparents have been found to have patches of skin cancer. This is the reason I stress the use of sunscreen in my home, and even require my kids to reapply it often.

In order to get the free skin cancer screening, you'll need to head to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery's website. Type your zip code into the search box, select your state from the drop-down menu and then click the button that reads, “Find a Skin Cancer Volunteer.” A list of participating doctors will appear. Contact the doctor of your choice and make an appointment for your free screening. It's that simple.
